I recently changed my own on my 2002 Escape XLT. The lowermounting nut is pretty obvious to see and remove on the lowerportion of the shock. The upper mounting nut can only be accessedby removing the left and right plastic trim panels in the inside ofthe car over the rear wheels. Both panels pop off with clips. Iwould suggest you pull gently at the rear of the panels first. thefront of the panel actually rests near the rear seat at the floor.There is one pop-in pastic clip that hold the lower corner of theleft and right panel to the floor. Once you remove the panels, theupper portion of the shock is visible and the upper mounting nutscan be removed. Replace the plastic trim panel by aligning theholes with the clips and pooping them back in gently with yourhand. Hope this helps.

The rear struts need replacing and have had several shops quote on them. One place suggested upgrading to heavy duty kyb's and to do front and rear. Another suggested gabriel and that I only needed to do the rear. A - any advantages to doing all 4 struts at once, or is it reasonable to do the rears now and the fronts when they really need it.
